Doula Prenatal and Birth Services

DOULA – (doo-lah): The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek and means “a woman who serves” or “woman’s servant”.  Although there are many types of doulas, the most common is a labor and birth doula, who is generally a woman who supports another woman through pregnancy, birth and early postpartum.  Studies have shown that having a doula can help make this process better by reducing the length of labor, lowering the use of epidurals and other pain medications and decreasing the risk of cesarean section birth.  Doulas also play a part in helping to make breastfeeding more successful and increasing positive birth experiences overall.  Click here to read the evidence on doulas.

Our journey together will begin with two to three prenatal visits, where we will get to know each other very well.  We will talk about the birth experience you envision, go over any questions, concerns or fears you may have regarding labor and birth, discuss how your partner can support you and how my support can be beneficial to both of you.  We will also go over different comfort measures and coping techniques to find what may work best for you.  Starting at 38 weeks of your pregnancy, I will be available to you 24/7 until your baby is born.  Throughout your labor I will be next to you with support, guidance and encouragement and I will remain with you up to two hours after the birth of your baby to answer any questions and help with breastfeeding and bonding.  As we come to the end of our journey we will have one to two postpartum visits to ensure that feedings are going well and help you to process your birth experience if you need to.

After nine months of anticipation and preparation, you finally met your new baby! NOW WHAT??? The postpartum period, also known as the Fourth Trimester, can be a time filled with excitement, uncertainties and anxiety. In addition to recovering from the physical demands of giving birth, adjusting to being new parents can feel a little over-whelming. Having a good support system in place can help smooth out the wrinkles of transitioning into your new roles as mommy and daddy. My postpartum care services offer emotional support to help mom process her birth experience, bond with her new baby and give her the opportunity for some self-care and pampering. Also included is educational and physical support through information on newborn care, feeding (breast/bottle), soothing, and help with light housekeeping (laundry, dishes, bottles, “picking up”) and light meal preparation.
 Postpartum Package: Starting at $250.00
